25 Unicorn Street, Saturday Morning

Waking up in a warm, comfortable bed was still kind of an amazing thing to Clint, so he wasn't in a rush to dig himself out of the covers right away when he woke up. He knew Lucky would need a walk at some point, and that would mean real clothes instead of pajamas and going outside, and he wanted to put that off for as long as possible, so he burrowed even deeper into the comforter and--ended up accidentally bumping into someone else. Had he had a sleepover last night?

Kitty had been all comfortable and sleeping, but now she was pretty sure someone was trying to wake her up. Which would be why her first words were a sleepy/whiny, "Noooo, 's not time to get up yet."

Clint snapped back a little in surprise, and also out of not wanting to accidentally kick her or anything. "No, it's okay, no getting up," he said as he retreated.

"Good," Kitty said, then realized that was a boy. "Uh. Hi?"

"Hi?" Clint said uncertainly, muffled by the covers. Strangers were bad enough but girl strangers were worse. "How are you?" That was a question people asked, right?

"Awake now." Obviously there'd been a play date or something and they'd both gotten tired. "How are you?"

"Good I guess," Clint said. He must have been really tired yesterday. "Are you comfy? The bed's pretty nice."

"Uh huh. It's nice and big, too," Kitty said. "Think anybody's making breakfast yet?"

Probably not, since she always woke up before her parents and had to play by herself until they woke up.

Clint poked his head out and took a big sniff. "I don't smell breakfast." And he was used to having to scrounge for himself and Barney so that wasn't terribly surprising. "I bet there's some stuff to make downstairs."

Kitty threw the covers off and scrambled off the bed, saying, "I'll race you!"

Apparently they were best friends now.

Ugh, girls were so weird. "Okay, but I'm totally gonna beat you," he said, shuffling out of the bed too.

"That's cute. But I'm really fast," she said, going to open the door so they didn't have to worry about that when racing.

Clint was totally cute, but the way she said that made it seem like a not good thing. "We're gonna see," he said. He was nice enough to wait for her to come back to where they were standing before saying, "Readysetgo," and starting to take off.

"Hey! Not fair!" she said, only because he was ahead of her, but she totally tried to keep up. "I'm gonna catch you!"

"Nuh uh! Don't even think about it!" Clint yelled back, pounding down the stairs.

It was such a good thing Natasha was off potentially killing people, or Clint might have ended up on her hit list.

"I'm thinking about it right now!" Kitty said, making up in attitude what she couldn't do in speed.

Clint was totally prepared to jump off of the steps halfway down - he wouldn't have broken anything when he landed, probably - but he stopped in his tracks when he got closer to the bottom and found Lucky in his way. "Aww, puppy," he said. Lucky might not have actually been a puppy, but that's what all dogs were, shhh. "If I get cooties, it's all your fault."

Kitty stopped herself just before running into Clint's back, but the puppy was a good reason to stop a race. "Girls don't have cooties, boys do," she said. "Proven fact."

"That's not true, you're a cootie machine," Clint said with a nod. "Don't do anything weird to Lucky."

Kitty's jaw dropped in offense. "I don't have cooties! I've been tested!"

No, she hadn't.

"Anyway, I wouldn't do anything weird to him. He just wants pets," she said, going to do that.

Yes, Lucky did want pets, and he happily sniffed at Kitty for a moment before deeming her worthy and offering himself to be petted.

"Be careful," Clint said, scratching behind Lucky's ear. "He's the best dog ever--" like all dogs were "--so we have to be careful with him."

"I'm careful," she said, even sitting on the floor next to Lucky. "You should make him a certificate. So he knows he's the best dog ever."

"Do you think he could read it?" Clint asked, sitting down on Lucky's other side. "I know dogs are smart but reading's haaard."

Adult Clint was only slightly less whiny about this topic.

"Reading's fun, if you've got the right stuff," Kitty reasoned. "Certificates telling you you're awesome are the right stuff. And if he can't read it, then we'll read it to him."

[so_hawkward]

Clint was definitely not going to tell her he probably wouldn't be able to read the certificate. "Um," he said lamely, before perking up. "Do you want to make the certificate and I can make breakfast? I bet there's cereal that's good."

It's okay. He was little.

"Yeah!" she said happily. "The sugarier, the better." Was that a word?
