MHA #10, Wednesday Evening

In the time since Clint had accidentally adopted Lucky, he'd come an awful long way in healing up from being mistreated by his previous owners. Sure, Lucky still walked a little slowly, but he was up for much longer walks than ever, especially now that the weather was decent. When their evening walk brought Clint near Kitty's apartment building, well, there was no reason not to check on her. That was the excuse he was going with at least when he knocked on the door, hoping she was home and not stuck at Caritas or something.

Kitty was not only home, she was already dressed for bed in shorts and a tank top and was on her fourth or fifth run through of channel surfing in case something she wanted to watch magically ended up on the schedule. So she was actually kind of glad to get up and unlock the door. "Aww, it's my favorite boys."

"Aww, see that Lucky? We're her favorites," Clint said, laughing and looking Kitty up and down. "Is it too late? I can come back some other time."

"No, I just got lazy early," she admitted. Like at 5 pm. You know what, don't judge. "You two can always come in whenever."

Besides, she was already giving Lucky pets hello.

Oh yeah, Lucky was appreciating the pets too, if the way his tail was wagging like crazy was any indication. "I'd better get inside before his tail moves so fast he propels us," Clint said, tugging on Lucky's leash to get him completely inside. "You're sure I'm not interrupting you?"

"Interrupting my exciting night of channel surfing? No, you just made my night soooo much better," she said, waiting till they were in before closing the door and giving Clint a kiss hello.

Mmm, yes, this was way better than just walking Lucky around the island a few times, and Clint was more than happy to kiss Kitty back. "Mmm, glad I could help," he said.

"Me too," Kitty grinned. "You here for any reason or did you just feel like stopping by? I'm good with either."

"Just felt like stopping by. Lucky apparently wanted a full island tour tonight, although he certainly doesn't look like it." Someone might have been a proud puppy parent here. "Either that, or he wanted to see you but needed to mark everything in town first."

"Let's pretend it's the second thing because I like feeling special," Kitty teased. "And he doesn't even look tired or anything."

"I know, right?" Yeah, Clint looked pretty outright proud now. "He's got to go to the v-e-t soon and get a checkup, and I think it's going to go well."

"Of course it will, because he is Super Dog and he is amazing and you take great care of him," Kitty said.

Seriously, Lycky was amazing because he didn't act as spoiled as he should with these two.

Lucky was just glad to get all the attention and food he could ever want, and he rewarded Kitty for that praise by brushing up against her leg. Obviously, petting worked in reverse like that.

"You know, any time you want to borrow him, you're welcome to," Clint said, like he'd actually be willing to let Lucky out of his sight for too long. Maybe with Kitty, yes.

Kitty smiled. "I can borrow your dog? That is the best," she said, reaching to scritch behind Lucky's ears.

"Well, I know you'll take care of him. Just no making him intangible without warning him," Clint said. "If that's something you can do?"

"I could theoretically phase him and warn him first, but it'd have to be an amergency for me to do it," Kitty told him. "I feel like I'd just freak him out and that's a thing I never want to do." She could do it with Lockheed but he understood her words to know what was happening. Also he had wings and could get away if he didn't like it.

"Still, it's good to know the option is there if we need it," Clint said. "You know, for protection or something. Not that I want to think about Lucky needing protection, but with my line of work..."

[throughaphase]

"He'll be fine," she assured him, sliding an arm around his waist. "He's a tough boy. Which he proved."

[so_hawkward]

"I know," Clint said, giving Kitty a hug. "I'm glad we stopped by to save you from going to bed early like an old person."

"I didn't say I was going to bed, I'm just dressed for it," Kitty laughed, hugging him back. "Oh, and this is how I dress for bed when you're not around."

Clint gasped, pretending to be surprised. "What? You mean you don't wear sexy stuff to bed when you're by yourself? That's so weird," he teased.

"I know, right? Obviously this is gonna change your whole opinion of me," she said.

"I don't know, you still look adorable," Clint said, giving Kitty a kiss. "So it's not that different."

[throughaphase]

"Well yeah, but I'm always adorable," Kitty teased, kissing him back.

"Oh, I don't know about that. Sometimes you're sexy to the point where I can barely function," Clint pointed out.

[throughaphase]

It was still pretty great hearing things like that. "As long as you can function. That's the important part."

Clint laughed. "There's a really dirty joke I could make there, but I'm going to behave and not say it out loud." Sometimes, he did have the maturity of... well, an old teenager, at most. "Lucky's poor ears don't need to hear it."

"Yes, he must be kept good and innocent at all times," she nodded. That wasn't even a joke. She didn't want to chance traumatizing him at all.

"That's why I cover his eyes during the bad parts of TV shows. I don't think he appreciates it though." The whining made Clint think his efforts were unappreciated, at least.

"...That is the cutest thing I've ever heard," Kitty decided.

[so_hawkward]

"Hey, no, Lucky's the cute one. I'm not..." Clint trailed off and sighed. "I'm not going to convince you of that, am I?"

[throughaphase]

"You can be cute," she said diplomatically. "Like right now. Right now you are cute."

"You're really not helping me feel old and strong right now," Clint complained, although he was smiling as well.

"I don't want you to feel old," Kitty said, giving him another kiss. "You are plenty strong, though. And ruggedly handsome."

[so_hawkward]

"Oh, rugged? Really? You're going to make my ego go crazy if you keep that up," he teased.

"So I shouldn't throw around words like 'manly' then?" she asked.

"Well, no, that one's okay," Clint said, laughing. "This should count as spoiling, I swear."

"It should," Kitty nodded. "But I kind of like spoiling you."
