So, Clint had zero interest in celebrating his own birthday. But, he knew that if he and Kitty didn't do something, she'd surprise him with something big and potentially embarrassing. At least a nice dinner meant he got to see Kitty dressed up, and he was reminding himself that he'd been expecting to spend his birthday alone a few months ago, so this was pretty good in comparison.

"If any waiter starts singing, I'm blaming you," he warned Kitty as they sat down.

"Maybe as part of your birthday present, I was nice to you on this front," Kitty smiled as she sat down.

"That's all I need, besides you being here with me," he said sincerely. "Pretending I'm not old would also be a nice present."

"You're not old," she told him, and meant it. "It's a rule, guys don't get old until they think their pants need to be chin-height."

"So, if I prefer not wearing pants, I won't age?" Clint asked with a smirk.

"If that's your plan, we're going to have some problems when you go out in public," Kitty laughed.

"Hmm, you have a point. I could be a hermit, but the dogs need walking and bad guys need arrows to the face," Clint said. "Although attacking them without pants would give me an element of surprise that could be helpful."

Because they were celebrating his birthday, Kitty would not bring up that time her Hawkeye went around in a purple skirt for a while.

But she was thinking it.

"How about you can stay nice and pantsless at home, and then when I take you out to show you off you can be at worst, 'distinguished.'"

"Oh, you want to show me off?" Clint said with a smirk. "I figured that would always be the other way around, with me showing you off. You look very nice tonight, by the way."

"Thank you. If I can get you dressed up, I should probably make an effort too, right?" Kitty teased.

"It is easier to get you looking nice," Clint agreed. "But you pull it off better, as always. I can't imagine how nice you're going to look when we get married."

"You don't have too much longer to imagine it," Kitty smiled. "I'm kiiiiind of curious to see if I can get you to cry at the... Well, technically it's not an altar but you know what I mean."

Clint laughed and squirmed a little in his chair. "I don't know if I will, but I know it's going to be kind of emotional, especially after the last few months," he said, reaching across the table for her hand.

"Yeah," she said, squeezing his hand. "Even after I came back I wasn't sure this would actually be a able to happen. It kind of makes it mean even more."

Clint squeezed Kitty's hand in return and laughed softly. "Okay, yeah, I'm probably gonna be a mess at the wedding. Do you think we can ban everyone from bringing in smartphones or other things to gather embarrassing evidence?"

"Well... we're going to have at least one Tony Stark there."

So, no.

"Maybe I can convince my Tony to make something to block everyone else's signals if we let him be the only one who has the footage," Clint said, laughing. "JARVIS could be convinced to not spread it anywhere. That reminds me, we need to warn people about doppelgangers, don't we?"

"...Probably. I'm not sure how much overlap we'll have, and people from my world would barely blink at that, but there should be some warning," Kitty said. "Maybe along with directions as to which world we're having the wedding in, there can be a 'You may see someone else with your face' disclaimer."

[so_hawkward]

"It'll make for some interesting pictures, at least," Clint said, giving her hand another squeeze. "And maybe all the attention won't be on us."

That was a good thing in Clint's mind, at least.

"You do realize we're the bride and groom, honey," Kitty smiled. "Though to be fair, the bride gets most of it."

Which she didn't care about either way, but that might be better for Clint.
