New York, Friday Evening

Clint had never paid a lot to the rules and traditions of getting married, but the one thing his and Kitty's friends had insisted on was that he wasn't supposed to see her from tonight until the actual wedding. Clint thought that was pretty stupid--like his natural bad luck could get any worse?--but he'd let Barney drag him out with Tony, Steve, and Thor (and Natasha, who insisted that someone with a brain needed to keep an eye on them all) while Kitty's friends took her out for something he hoped wouldn't involve male strippers.

At the third bar of the night, Clint managed to get away from the others long enough to hit the speed dial for Kitty's number on his phone. Not seeing her didn't mean not talking to her, right?

There were no male strippers! There was however a few drinks, a lot of talking, and some weirdness. Besides the whole marrying-someone-not-Peter thing, Kitty also hadn't accounted for the fact that Illyana and Rachel had never really spent time together before and so there were some Pointed Comments happening between her bffs and of course this would happen.

So she was really glad to get the call and excused herself to take it outside where it was quieter. "Having fun on your last night as my fiancé?" she greeted him.

"Oh yeah, we're having a great time," Clint said, a statement that was quickly followed by a roar of laughter from Thor. "I think the others are almost as excited as I am."

"Well, of course. How often do Avengers go off the market for good?" she teased.

"Everyone had bets on Tony getting nailed down by a paternity suit first," Clint admitted. "Are you all having fun? I'm not asking for any ladies' night secrets."

"I am. There's a couple little weird things, but that kinda comes standard with us," Kitty said. "...What kind of ladies night secrets do you think we have?"

"I don't know. Guys aren't allowed to know what happens at girls' sleepovers, so I figured bachelorette night was off limits too," Clint said. "What weird things?"

"I kinda forgot Rachel and Illyana weren't really around at the same time, so there's a little 'I know Kitty better' jockeying," she explained. "Maybe I'll just get them drunk till they're friends."

"Oh, I see. Getting them drunk is definitely an option."

Clint covered the phone as Tony called his voice, but Kitty could probably make out muffled sounds of Clint saying "No" over and over again before he came back.

"Tony says if a drunken girlfight breaks out, you have to send pictures, or else. You should feel free to ignore that though, just like I am."

"There will be no drunken girl fights because someone would end up dead or in hell," Kitty said firmly. "No drunken fights over there either."

"I'm being good, I promise. I've only had a few drinks," Clint said, lowering his voice. "Barney's being good too, I warned him that if he messes anything up, I won't speak to him again."

"I'm sure he'll be fine," Kitty told him. "It's your big day, thar should keep him in line."

"It's our big day. I can't believe it's almost here." Clint grinned at the phone. "I'm going to be a giant dork tomorrow, I apologize in advance."

"I encourage your dorkiness!" she told him. "I might be bouncing off the walls."

Whatever Clint was going to say disappeared as Barney came up behind him and snatched the phone out of his hand. Being the taller brother totally had its benefits. "Is this my future sister-in-law?"

Being an only child, Kitty had never really considered that anyone would call her that. It was kind of beat. "It is! Hello, soon-to-be brother-in-law," she greeted him.

"You know you still have time to change your mind, right? Decide you don't want to marry into this family?" Barney said, grunting a little as Clint tried to smack the phone from him.

"Yeah, I know. It's not gonna happen, though," she told him. It was not the first time today someone had asked her if she was sure about this. "You guys kinda grew on me."

"Aww, she says we both grew on her," Barney said to Clint.

"I'm going to grow on you and strangle you if you don't give me my phone back!" Clint said.

Barney laughed. "All right, I'll give you back. Just remember, if you need a quick out tomorrow, let me know."

"Okay. I'll signal you if I need it," Kitty laughed.

Clint grumbled as Barney gave him his phone back. "Yeah, go drink some more or something. Go tell Tony more embarrassing stories about our childhood." When he got back on the phone, all he did was sigh. "I'm sorry."

"Oh, don't worry about it," she assured him. "You know what, it's a sign of a good brother-in-law that he'd help me out like that, even though there's less than zero chance I'd take him up on it."

"Even though you are absolutely marrying down and I'm marrying up?" Clint asked, half-teasing.

"No, we're marrying right," Kitty said. "Also, we're both marrying awesome, too."
