Not even superhero insurance could allow a woman to stay in the hospital for too long after giving birth, so Clint and Kitty had gotten Lexi all bundled up this morning and brought her home. Clint had done his best to be a good husband, making sure Kitty was comfortable in the car, trying not to drive too fast, stopping at a Starbucks drive-thru at Kitty's request, and not saying anything when actually getting the coffee made her start crying. He understood, and he couldn't judge.

Lucky and Rook had spent the morning very intrigued by the pink bundle in the carrier, and Lexi was wonderfully behaved as Clint and Kitty texted their friends to let them know they were home and could come by to see the new addition. Obviously this was a sign that she'd be a perfect baby who wouldn't keep them up all night, right?

"This is adorable and very weird," Kitty decided from the sofa, where she'd found a good position that wasn't uncomfortable and now she was scared to move.

"I'd say you're adorable and very weird but that might be the exhaustion talking," Clint said, snickering. "Do you need anything? A drink? A blanket? Food?"

"I want like several blankets, so I can turn them into a nest here,".she said.

"People are gonna take all the bird jokes they make about me and say them about you instead," Clint teased, but he still went upstairs to their bedroom and came back with a weighted blanket and a normal blanket. "I could just wrap you up like a burrito."

"We swaddle the baby, not me," she laughed. "I just wanna be comfy."

"I still don't get the swaddling thing. How is it not like a strait jacket?" Clint said, getting comfortable on the couch with Kitty.

"It's a comfort thing, like getting a hug. Or having a weighted blanket," she said, adjusting that very item. "And babies don't know what straitjackets are yet to make the comparison."

"And she never will because she's going to turn out wonderful and anyone who tries to mess with her is going to have to come through me first." He'd get less scary protective when she stopped being so tiny, probably.

Sure he would.

"We are setting lofty expectations for this poor girl," Kitty noted.

It had taken some flailing and a lot of being a completely lost cause, but Kanan had managed to order a bouquet from Covent Garden that was... largely more thoughtful than really coherently a 'welcome new baby' sort of bouquet. It had some weird rainbow roses in it, some baby's breath, and a pale green stuffed bunny on a stick. Like a flower. That was a bunny.

Presumably the bunny could come off the stick, it was just tied on with a rubber band, but Kanan hadn't inspected it so closely when he'd decided that he hadn't gotten the baby enough toys yet, as though the baby had managed in her two days of life to develop an appreciation for such things yet.

... Anyway, he was here. And knocking quietly, in case the baby was asleep. With a weird bouquet and yet another stuffed toy.

Kitty had actually just gotten up to get Lexi (it'd been too long since she held her, see) and so she was up anyway to answer the door.

"Look what I did," she said.

"You did that, huh?" Kanan wasn't even trying to bite back a big dumb smile, no. "Damn, Kitty, look at her. She's all..."

Small and squirmy. Babies were confusing.

He adored her already.

"Perfect. Pretty sure the word is perfect. Congrats." And then he looked awkwardly down at the bouquet. "Uh, should I put this somewhere?"

"I can take it," she said, like she was going to shift Lexi to one arm, and then she decided that was terrifying. "You can just put it on the table. That is amazing."

Kanan chuckled as he made his way in to set the bouquet down.

"Everything was pink," he noted. "And I like pink, pink is fine, but your kid deserves something more exciting than the same bouquet every other little girl gets. Apparently the flowers come from the same world as my dog."

So, rainbow roses and a rabbit who had been sacrificed to the new-baby-arrangement gods. Naturally.

"So, how are you doing? And how is she doing? How are you, plural and singular?"

"I'm good, if tired and really gross," Kitty said. "And she is perfect."

[uncertain_dume]

"Well, the tired and gross parts probably won't be permanent, at least," Kanan teased, dusting his hands off before turning away from the table to grin at them again. "And it's good to finally get to see her in person. You must be thankful that part is over, hm?"

"I was so done by the end. And kinda ready to never do it again. But look at her," Kitty grinned, turning to give him a better look.

Éponine was out making deliveries, but as soon as she could justify taking a break -- which was to say as soon as her route took her into the neighborhood -- she was knocking at the door, mail bag still slung over her shoulder and a couple of lumpy padded envelopes under one arm.

Was greeting people with the baby the best way to do this? Yes, it was. So Kitty opened the door, holding Lexi. "Hi there."

See, this way they both had their arms full. It was fair.

"There you are!" Éponine exclaimed, already staring in awe at the baby. "You're looking quite well already, and I'm glad to see it, I am."

[throughaphase]

"Thank you! There's a lot of aspirin involved," she said, stepping aside to let her in.

"I can barely imagine,I tell you that!" Éponine beamed at both Kitty and Lexi as she stepped inside. "It's impressive that you're already on your feet, but then I'm not surprised, either. And young mademoiselle here, are you glad to be home finally? I'm quite pleased to make your acquaintance too."

[throughaphase]

"This is Lexi," she said, turning so Eponine could see her better. "I'm sure she'd be glad to be home if she understood the concept yet."

Éponine sketched a silly, exaggerated curtsey. "Hello, Lexi! You do seem as if you're glad to be home, even if you don't quite know what that means yet. You'll quite like it here, I think, and you've got lovely parents, so you'll be all right, I'm sure of it."

Was there a tiny bit of wistfulness in her voice? Yes, though she might argue there wasn't.

"I'm so calling you when I'm sleep deprived and sobbing and need an ego boost," Kitty told her.
