Not even superhero insurance could allow a woman to stay in the hospital for too long after giving birth, so Clint and Kitty had gotten Lexi all bundled up this morning and brought her home. Clint had done his best to be a good husband, making sure Kitty was comfortable in the car, trying not to drive too fast, stopping at a Starbucks drive-thru at Kitty's request, and not saying anything when actually getting the coffee made her start crying. He understood, and he couldn't judge.

Lucky and Rook had spent the morning very intrigued by the pink bundle in the carrier, and Lexi was wonderfully behaved as Clint and Kitty texted their friends to let them know they were home and could come by to see the new addition. Obviously this was a sign that she'd be a perfect baby who wouldn't keep them up all night, right?

Kitty grinned, and very carefully handed Lexi over. "Watch her head."

It didn't matter if Eponine knew that or not, it was still a little terrifying handing her kid over to anyone.

Éponine nodded, and it was almost sad how painstakingly she made sure to hold Lexi properly.

"I looked it up on my phone, you know," she admitted "How to do this, I mean. She's so tiny! One can see that, of course, but it's an entirely different thing from actually holding her and seeing it up close. Hello, Lexi, you and I are going to be friends, don't you think? I'd like that."

"I feel like it's weird they let us leave the hospital with something this little," Kitty said, not entirely joking. "I'm used to them being bigger, and being old enough to do things."

"Isn't it funny to think we all started out being this small?" Éponine laughed, wiggling her fingers in front of Lexi's face.

Which was going to be a hilariously, ironically prescient statement come tomorrow morning.

"It's weird. And then someday she's going to get big."

Which was also a funny thought now.

Éponine hummed a soft, broken melody as she swayed back and forth with the baby. "It's a good thing that wouldn't have been a surprise either way, hmm? D'you think you'll let her see the pictures of herself before she gets that big, or no?"

"I haven't really thought about it," Kitty admitted. "There's plenty of weird here and in our universes back home, it might depend on whether we even get a choice there."

Double the potential for universe-related wacky, double the fun, huh?

"I suppose, being your kid and all, and living here, she'll have to get used to the silly things sooner or later," Éponine said. "Though probably not too soon."

Kitty paused. "Maybe we should spend December in New York," she said, and added, "Clint's New York."

"Is that more normal than your world?" asked Éponine, because there was no point in asking if someplace was more normal than Fandom.

[throughaphase]

"So far. And if nothing else, his place definitely gets blown up less," Kitty conceded.

“I still can’t believe that makes sense,” Éponine admitted, “and me having been here five years’n more already.”
