Not even superhero insurance could allow a woman to stay in the hospital for too long after giving birth, so Clint and Kitty had gotten Lexi all bundled up this morning and brought her home. Clint had done his best to be a good husband, making sure Kitty was comfortable in the car, trying not to drive too fast, stopping at a Starbucks drive-thru at Kitty's request, and not saying anything when actually getting the coffee made her start crying. He understood, and he couldn't judge.

Lucky and Rook had spent the morning very intrigued by the pink bundle in the carrier, and Lexi was wonderfully behaved as Clint and Kitty texted their friends to let them know they were home and could come by to see the new addition. Obviously this was a sign that she'd be a perfect baby who wouldn't keep them up all night, right?

[Open to anyone who wants to visit and see a baaaby!]

"You're going to want to keep her head supported," Kitty told him, carefully handing Lexi over and taking a seat next to him.

Please don't laugh at him, Kitty, but Kanan was absolutely holding his breath as he took her gingerly in his arms - she fit neatly in the crook of one arm so help him and really, humans weren't supposed to be so small, who even authorized this? - and kind of nestled her in against the left side of his chest, away from his armor.

"Uh, hi there, Lexi," he said, a bit awkwardly. "It's good to finally meet you..."

He glanced up at Kitty to make sure he was doing this right. Yes? Please yes. Probably yes. The baby didn't seem to be distressed at all, so, yes. He was calling this a yes.

[throughaphase]

"You're fine," she assured him. "They generally let you know when you're doing something wrong. Loudly."

[uncertain_dume]

"Hookay," Kanan replied, blowing out that breath he'd been holding. "That's good to know. I, um, I don't really have much experience with babies."

Any. He didn't have any experience with babies. Especially not newborns.

He looked back down at the little bundle in his arms. And then he smiled a little. And then he smiled a little more.

And then that smile turned into a dorky little grin.

"See, she's not so scary," Kitty smiled.

It also helped that so far Lexi was extremely chill.

"She's not," Kanan agreed, still wearing that dorky smile. "Letting me hold her was a mistake, Kitty. I'm going to spoil your kid so much. I'm reasonably certain she's already got me wrapped around her illegally tiny finger."

[throughaphase]

"I'm absolutely okay with her getting spoiled," Kitty nodded. "I could probably turn it into a competition between Fandom and the X-Men."

[uncertain_dume]

"Do I get an unfair advantage, what with you being right here, and all? Do I get to play the 'I saw her first' card, or did they beat me to that?"

Kanan needed to know what the competition was like, here. It was important.

[throughaphase]

"You met her first, they've known me a decade longer," Kitty explained.

And they had Logan. And Lockheed. And...

[uncertain_dume]

"Hm," Kanan replied, weighing this information very, very carefully for, oh, all of two seconds. "Well, then I guess I have my work cut out for me, don't I?"

There were worse battles to have with the X-Men than 'which of us can spoil Kitty's baby more?'

[throughaphase]

"Hear that, Lexi?" Kitty said. "You already have boys fighting over you!"

[uncertain_dume]

"Didn't take long at all," Kanan chuckled, smiling back down at the baby in his arms. Space, there was this perfect tiny little person in his arms and his brain was still trying very hard to wrap around that fact. "She'll have to chase all the boys at school off with a stick."

[throughaphase]

"Or girls, I don't judge," Kitty added.

[uncertain_dume]

"She can chase the boys off so that she can get right to kissing girls," Kanan said easily. "Whatever makes her happy."

He also didn't judge. This was a child of a friend. Kanan would ruin the life of anybody who did.

[throughaphase]

"Oh, I'm pretty sure she's not allowed to get to kissing until she's forty," she said.

[uncertain_dume]

"It's all cute 'do you like me' letters and hand-holding until then, huh?"

[throughaphase]

"Yep. It might be awkward socially, but it'll make her dad and me feel better."

And that's what was important.

[uncertain_dume]

"I'm certain she'll understand that it's all for your own good," Kanan teased, unconsciously starting to sway a little as he looked back down fondly at the baby. Swaying seemed like the done thing when holding an infant, all of a sudden.
